Dr Marina Bakaric and William Cole from Precision Acoustics came in last week to give a talk to A-Level Physics students.

Precision Acoustics is a life sciences manufacturing company who specialise in the development of systems for the measurement and characterisation of ultrasound fields for medical applications. The talk focused on what the path through university into this industry looks like as well as the global industry leading technology that their company develops from their headquarters just outside Dorchester.

Dr Bakaric has a BSc in Physics, and an MSc and PhD in Medical Physics. Her PhD research was about utilising ultrasound and light to treat cancerous tissues and monitor this in real time. Prior to leading the Measurements team at Precision Acoustics, she worked at the National Physical laboratory where she also conducted measurements on medical ultrasound devices according to international safety standards which she now contributes to writing.

William Cole studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol and joined Precision Acoustics at the same time as Dr Bakaric. He is now an experienced senor development engineer, designing and building devices for a variety of applications in medical ultrasound as well as non-destructive testing.

Thank you to Euan B in Year 12 for organising this fantastic opportunity in his role as a Physics Scholarship Leader.
